Trime X-Chain
Introduction
The Totton compound in Southampton is home to Network Rail’s multi-purpose maintenance trains. It serves the whole of the Wessex area and runs 24/7, 365 days a year. The maintenance works carried out are seasonal, therefore lighting solutions need to easily adapt to suit the conditions of the environment, as well as run with little maintenance.
The compound is surrounded by residential buildings, so lighting and noise pollutions must be kept to a minimum and avoid disruption to the local community.
The Challenge
Due to the proximity of residential buildings, it was important the supplier had the resources and experience to provide a lighting solution that did not disturb the surrounding residential area. With works happening all year round, including in winter months, the equipment would also need to be easily manoeuvrable around the ballast and compound as required.
The Solution
Sunbelt Rentals Rail worked closely with Balfour Beatty to design an environmentally friendly solution that safely lit the compound with zero noise and lighting pollution.
We supplied several X-Chain Trime lights, which are easy to set up, connect together, and move around the compound as required. As these lights are powered mains, there are no noisy diesel generators required. The X-Chains are designed for zero maintenance and operate silently, delivering minimal disruption to the local community.
To reduce lighting pollution X-Chains use LED bulbs and have movable heads, which light up specific areas and reduce the glare for nearby houses.
The Results
As Sunbelt Rentals continually invests in greener and eco-friendly solutions, we were able to provide the perfect solution for the Totton compound. The use of X-Chains ensured zero noise, zero emissions and zero fuel and importantly, caused minimal disruption to the local community.
These fuel-free lighting towers provided a low maintenance lighting solution; Balfour Beatty saved time and money with less man power required to operate the lights and monitor fuel levels.
