Cumbrian Challenge 2023
In 2023, Sunbelt Rentals was back for another Cumbrian Challenge, supporting our strategic partners Walking With The Wounded (WWTW).
Established in 2010, WWTW is a leading military charity that focuses on rehabilitating those veterans who are mentally, socially, or physically wounded, by helping to get them back on their feet.
This annual flagship fundraising event brings together individuals, organisations, and companies to raise money for those who need support, with the aim of getting them and their families the help they need.

Challenge
Some armed forces veterans have difficulties transitioning to civilian life. Access to employment can seem daunting, which can impact both their lives and those of their families.
Through hosting this annual challenge, WWTW attracts high awareness and much needed funds to help fund mental health support to help veterans settle back into civilian life, armed with the tools, and support they need to succeed.
Solution
As a proud recipient of the Gold Armed Forces Covenant Award, we at Sunbelt Rentals do everything possible to support and employ service leavers and members of the armed forces community.
This year we built on our great successes of 2021 and 2022, with even more teammates taking part. The teams had all trained and prepared for the challenge months in advance and took on their choice of three different routes to suit their differing abilities. Everyone started from Grasmere Sports Ground, with the option to take on The Peak (a 10km, 917m ascent), The Tough (a 25km, 1,736m ascent) or The Tougher, (a 31km, 2,289m ascent). The event was certainly challenging, and was declared a great success with the best-ever fundraising total raised.
Results
This year 60 of our teammates took on the challenge, across 20 Sunbelt Rentals teams, including a team of North American veterans. Together we raised an incredible £29,529, which takes our cumulative fundraising total to over £41,000.
Jackie Cuthbert, Social Impact Director and Cumbrian Challenge participant for the fourth year said,
“I work really closely with WWTW all year round, and love taking part in this event. It is fantastic to see so many people from across so many different companies coming together to give back.
The fact that so many of our Sunbelt teammates engage in the Challenge really shows how much our team care about supporting the armed forces community. This year the event followed our own veterans Adventure Therapy Retreat, which made it all the more special for lots of our veterans who took part in both. We can’t wait to bring even more team mates, customers and suppliers along for the next Challenge, which is on May 18 2024!”
