We are focused on delivering skills, education and employment support to help develop a local talent pipeline and address the skills shortage, ensuring we are the employer of choice for the most talented local people.
We will do this by ensuring we offer exciting career paths to everyone with ambition, regardless of their background. We will take our people on a learning journey and ensure a physically and mentally safe, respectful and exciting place to work.
We focus on making a difference to our local communities through the following flagship initiatives:
Our Skills, Education and Employment Volunteering Programme
Our expert Social Impact Team works with a whole range of regional stakeholders, to create, launch and manage innovative solutions to local skills, education and employment problems. They lead our SEE Volunteering Programme, which is ‘needs driven’, and operates from both ‘top down’ and ‘bottom up’.
We manage ‘top down’ requests from our customers for SEE project volunteers to support schools, colleges and educational establishments around our contracts, and ‘bottom up’ grassroots requests from our people to support initiatives in their local community. Examples include:
- TutorMate volunteering teams - supporting young children age 6 with 121 reading in schools with multiple indices of deprivation in London Borough of Islington
- Marketing Director supporting Year 6 students at Sandbach High School with insights into Digital Marketing and Social Media careers at a Careers event
- Engineers talking to Year 6 students at a high school in London Borough of Hillingdon about their career journeys as part of our social value commitments for our SCS JV HS2 project

Beacon Schools and Colleges Programme
Our Beacon Schools programme was founded in 2021. It aims to support 250 young people through one week work experience programmes aimed at demystifying the world of rental and the vast array of exciting careers available between now and 2025.
We work strategically with Beacon Schools and colleges located close to our Regional Operational Centres to encourage students to apply for apprenticeships and early careers with us We would love to hear from potential collaborative partners across the UK who are interested to join us in delivering our Beacon Schools and Colleges Programme. Please email socialimpact@sunbeltrentals.co.uk for more information
On-Site and Construction Skills Centres
We work in partnership with a number of contractors across the country to help deliver collaborative skills training either on site or at a college located close to major projects or developments. We can donate pop up classrooms to help students learn in a (safe) real world environment, and we can also work to loan plant and equipment to support students as they pursue their CSCS cards and relevant practical skills training qualifications.
Examples of this include: The Southwark Construction Skills Centre; City of Wolverhampton College; South & City College Birmingham; Solihull College . If you would like to find out about how you can support this please email socialimpact@sunbeltrentals.co.uk for more information.
