Legionella Awareness Training

See Course Dates

This professional water safety course is designed to provide Legionella Awareness training, including an introduction to Legionnaires’ disease, the control of Legionella bacteria risks in hot and cold-water systems, and the safety regulations and guidance that surround the process.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical assignments. Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of theory and practical tests.

These will include:

  • Gaining an understanding of Legionnaires' disease, its associated Legionella bacteria, and the conditions in which it can proliferate in engineered water systems.
  • Learning how to identify and manage these risks according to legal requirements, approved codes of practice, and best practice guidance, including COSHH, the HSE's ACOP L8, and HSG274 Parts 2 and 3.
  • Looking into the basic design of water systems and their components, as well as other risk systems.
  • Implementing a legionella control plan with suitable monitoring programmes and records, as detailed in the HSE's technical guidance documents HSG274 Parts 2 and 3.
  • Getting acquainted with the written scheme of control for legionella, as well as the risk assessment processes defined in BS 8580-1 for hot and cold-water systems.

This course is suited to anyone involved in the management and control of legionella. Typically, this is landlords and business owners, health and safety managers, property and facilities managers, maintenance, and engineering contractors, and those with responsibility for the safe storage of water and safe operation of such water systems.

However, the Legionella Awareness course on its own isn’t sufficient for delegates who have been appointed as responsible person or statutory duty holder. If this is the case, please refer to our advanced Legionella Responsible Persons training for a more in-depth understanding.

Successful delegates will receive a City & Guilds “Certificate of Attainment” for this Legionella Awareness Training course.

Companies who are CITB registered and meet their grant scheme eligibility requirements may be able to claim for a short course duration grant. Please contact us for further information.
