Legionella Operative Training

This Legionella Technical Operative course is designed to train operators who routinely complete semiskilled tasks associated with controlling the risk of legionella bacteria in water systems. 

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical assignments. Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of theory and practical tests. 

These will include: 

  • The risks associated with Legionella bacteria and Legionnaires' Disease, including a better understanding of the bacteria, its transmission methods, and the conditions that allow for its proliferation.  
  • The basics behind ACOP L8 and HSG 274, the importance of the management pathway, and how Legionella can affect the lungs.  
  • How to identify symptoms and better protect yourself and others from Legionella.  
  • Various methods of temperature monitoring, control, flushing, purging, cleaning, disinfecting, and descaling showers, and spray taps. 
  • Emergency procedures when a system goes out of control.  
  • Requirements for the inspection and cleaning of calorifiers.  
  • Requirements for flushing of expansion vessels.  

This course is suited to learners who wish to undertake operative training and develop skills for legionella control and maintenance in water systems. Those persons will typically be maintenance staff, but also may be Responsible Person or Deputy Responsible Person, who require deeper practical knowledge. 

Delegates should already hold a good level of industry experience or have taken a recognised Legionella Awareness Course.  

Successful delegates will receive a City & Guilds “Certificate of Attainment” for this Legionella Awareness Training course.  

Companies who are CITB registered and meet their grant scheme eligibility requirements may be able to claim for a short course duration grant. Please contact us for further information.
