Epic 150km hike - from Liverpool to Mount Snowdon!

news 27 May 2021

Jimmy Scott, a Project Manager in our Trakway business and one of our founder Veteran Ambassadors shares with us his epic quest - to raise much needed funds for The Block Armed Forces Drop In Centre in Liverpool.

Back in January this year I popped into The Block Armed Forces Drop In Centre - a new Veteran Support Centre that had opened up in my local area.

I wanted to have a chat and a quick brew, to find out what it was all about. After listening to the guys’ vision for the Centre I was absolutely blown away. I decided then and there that I would commit to helping in any way I could and would do my best to help.

First of all I wanted to raise some money to help towards the much needed renovation of the property and secondly I also wanted to create awareness to draw attention to The Block and what it is trying to achieve. I came up with the idea of embarking on a big walk of some kind. I decided I was going to walk from The Block HQ in Liverpool, 145km across Merseyside, down into Snowdonia in North Wales...then climb the mountain when I got there!

At the time I had no idea how or when it was going to happen, but I knew with some support, I could do it.

I am absolutely thrilled to be joined by an amazing team of three other local dads, all volunteering their time and efforts to join me on the walk to help raise funds. Fast forward four months and here we are....ready to go and tackle the mountain on 4 June - next week!

Walk for The Block Jimmy ScottOur plan is to set off from The Block HQ on Walton Road in Liverpool and hike towards Snowdonia National Park, covering around 60km on days 1 and 2. Then on day 3, we will set off and cover the last 25km or so as quickly as we can, before reaching the base of Mount Snowdon. Once there we will sort ourselves out one last time, before climbing 1,085m to the top of the mountain.

We will be carrying all of our own kit and equipment weighing around 45/50lbs each. This may seem like a mammoth task, but this is nothing compared to the struggle that a lot of our UK Armed Forces Veterans face day in, day out. It is organisations like The Block that are there to guide us through the hard times and get us back on our feet.
